Back to work

Woke up quite late today compared to my plan. My family is still on vacation, so if fall back to sleep at 7, nothing wakes me up. That's always a problem during vacation time: family keeps sleeping in until really late hours, e.g. 11AM. So around noon, when I start feeling hungry, they just finished breakfast. The joys of working from home.

Back to blogging

Updated this blog (entries for the past 4 days were really written today). Moved it to git in order to be able to do git grep search easily (integrated in my emacs.el as C-o C-g, a reflex that was frustrated while blogging...

Upcoming talks

Reviewed the two sessions accepted at DevConf.cz:

Started gathering ideas and a plan for the talks.

I still have trouble getting over my botching the FOSDEM talk.

VM boot performance issue

Discussion on IRC for a slow VM startup time led me to do some measurement on startup time for my own VMs.

Boot Loader Specification

Mailing list discussion follow up (thread "[INFO]: IMPORTANT Kernel Engineering & grub2 BLS changes/empty grub.cfg"). Also pointed Marcelo Ricardo Leitner about Red Hat Bugzilla 1636466 (above thread + his status report). He added a comment. Pinged Alberto Ruiz, because I'm not entirely convinced we have totally copnverged on a solution here. Re-read the related documentation in RHEL8, as of today it still refers to grub2-mkconfig the old way. I sent a message to Jirka and Alberto Ruiz.

Added a Return from User Experience section to the Fedora Project page for BLS.

Read Boot Loader Specification (BLS) page on systemd.io. At least, now I understand the rationale, which I had totally misunderstood so far. Basically, it's primarily driven by the desire to have multiple distros cooperate more nicely on multiboot systems. Nice.

Expense report

Got back another automated reply from PayPal, which reminded me that I had not finished my expense report. Done.

Expense reports

Finished expense reports for travel to Brno.

PayPal issue

Still have not heard back anything useful from PayPal.
